Flowers and Creeks and Trees, Oh My!!!

Bonjour, dear readers!!!
My grandma is here for a visit, and yesterday after church we decided to go on a hike. And since I was severely lacking in the blog inspiration for this week, I thought I'd share some pictures!
We live in Northern Idaho, which is a truly beautiful place! And we took this really great trail that had a lot of gorgeous spots and sights.

Here's this little bridge that was in the path. We came across a few, but I really liked this picture. :)

I took a TON of pictures of the trail since my sincere hope was to use one of them for a new blog background. This was going to be the one. But it is not wanting to cooperate with me. *Growls* Maybe later....

Here's a centipede/millipede bug thingy-ma-jigger my brother found. On a side note, I am sooooo happy with how well my camera focuses on things. :D

Wild strawberry plant flower. I took a lot of flower pictures, so... Yeah. xP

Anudder flower. I also took a lot of pictures of white flowers. Hem...

A hole in a tree with ants in it. I don't know why, but I thought it was cool!!!

This really strange plant thing in the trail.

Some itty bitty flowers that took me FOREVER AND EVER to get my camera to focus on!!!!!!!! My brother and grandma were waiting for me, patiently at first, but a little less so after a few minutes of me silently holding my camera up to a tiny flower....

Wild clematis.

White flower.

Another white flower that took me forever to focus on!!!! But I'm so happy with this picture now. :D

A pretty creek picture!! I always feel like there should be little fairies sprinkled around the forest in my area. But alas, there never are any. *Sighs*

For those of you who have never been to Northern Idaho, this is what the forest looks like. All of it. It's green and bushy and thick. So very, very thick....

Another picture to exemplify it's thickness.

And a picture of the lake we were by!!! Beautiful, isn't it??

Well, now that I've made you all want to come visit Idaho, it's time for me to say goodbye. But first...
If all goes according to plan, I should be halfway through my book in two weeks from today. And I told you guys I would share an excerpt at that point!!! So, for those of  you who are looking at this from Pinterest and know who my characters are and have a vague idea of what my story is about, then I'm going to let you choose what kind of scene you would like.
   You can either have
   A. A Brutan and Breeta scene that I think is rather sweet.
   B. A funny/sarcastic scene between multiple characters
   C. A fun Training scene
   D. A serious moment between Brutan and Loorarc

So, what would you like?? And if you're reading this and you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can check out my storyboards over at my Pinterest . All of these characters and the story that they're in can be found on all boards with the heading "Northworld" or "Shadow's Bane". The excerpt will be taken out of the first part of "The Secret Key", since that's all I have written so far, haha!! Go ahead and think about it and tell me what you think!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!!

"Proud of You" (A Big Hero 6 Fanfiction)

   G'day, readers!
I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and got to spend some time with your mama's and family. :) I did! I could write a long, long blog post about everything my mother does and all of the things she puts up with and how much she still loves us. And I certainly love her for it! But today, I am going to post a fanfiction.
Yes, I am in love with Disney's latest masterpiece, Big Hero 6. IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!! And so, I wrote this fanfiction for it. Any body else watch all the way through to watch the after the credits scene with tears streaming down their face in hope that Tadashi might make a sudden re-appearance?? Well, I did. During said credits, there is a little "scene" I guess you could call it, that shows a bunch of newspaper articles. Some of them depict Big Hero 6 saving and defending the people of San Fransokyo, others hail Hiro's genius. But there was one that showed the grand reopening of the SFIT showcase hall. Or as the newspaper article says, the Tadashi Hamada building. And thus this fanfiction was born....

  Proud of You
A Big Hero 6 Fanfiction

Hiro stared fixedly at his notecards and sucked on his lower lip.
All I have to do is go through this darn speech one time. Just one time and I'll be alright.
He cleared his throat and opened his mouth to begin. Then closed it with a frustrated groan.
“It's no use, Aunt Cass! I'll never be able to do this speech. Ever! They're just going to have to get someone else to do it.” He exclaimed, throwing himself onto the couch.
“No, no, no, Hiro, don't give up! You can do this, I know you can.” Aunt Cass said from her seat on the other side of the room.
Hiro shook his head miserably.
“You have to at least go through it once before you give up. Remember how good you did with your SFIT presentation?”
“But that's nothing like this!” Hiro retorted, throwing his hands in the air. “If I mess this up, no one will ever forgive me. Honey Lemon, Wasabi, GoGo, Fred... They will all hate me.”
Hiro dropped his notecards on the ground and buried his head in his hands.
“No one is going to hate you.” Aunt Cass laughed, standing up from her chair and walking over to her nephew. She knelt down next to him and began picking up his scattered speech. “And you're not going to mess this up. You're going to be amazing, I promise you.”
Hiro remained silent and didn't move from his position.
Aunt Cass quietly sighed, pushing back a graying strand of hair out of her face. Straightening the gathered notecards, she placed them on the nearest end table and settled down next to Hiro. She stared at the old carpet on the floor as she pursed her lips together thoughtfully.
“Hiro, I'm kind of thinking you're not really worried about your friends hating you. Maybe you're more worried about hating yourself if this all goes south.” She looked over at Hiro questioningly.
He shrugged his shoulders.
“Oh Hiro, you can't,” Aunt Cass said, circling her arms around Hiro. “You can't do that to yourself over something so silly.”
“It's not silly!” He cried, flinging his head up from it's downward position. He quickly turned away, but not before Aunt Cass saw the tears in his eyes.
“You're right. It's not.” She said gently, arm still around Hiro's shoulders. “I know how important this is to you. But it really isn't the end of the world if you do mess up. Which you won't.”
She gave his shoulders an encouraging shake. “And even if you do, you know who will still be proud of you?”
She waited for Hiro to reply. He nodded slowly, still unwilling to speak.
“I'll be proud of you, and your friends will be proud of you. But the one who'll be the proudest of us all is your brother. If Tadashi could see you now, he would be...”
She paused, lifting her gaze to the ceiling as she searched for the right word. “He would be exploding with pride! You always meant so much to him, Hiro, more than anything in the world. I know he's so happy for you, and so, so, proud of you. You know that, right?”
Hiro glanced over at her and nodded.
“Do you really know?” She demanded, squeezing his body against hers and tousling his thick black hair.
“Yes, I know! I know!” He said, a smile tugging at his mouth as he pulled out of her grip. He finger combed his hair, glaring at her teasingly as he sniffed back his tears.
“Good thing.” Aunt Cass said, smiling tenderly at him. She gave him another hug before handing him his notecards back.
“You'd better get to work.” She urged. Hiro got up with a playful groan and took the offered notecards from Aunt Cass.
“Let's try this again.” He said.

* * * *

“Why are there so many people?” Hiro asked, eyes wandering restlessly over the enormous crowd assembled before him.
“Why wouldn't there be?” GoGo replied, putting a hand on her hip. “The showcase fire affected pretty much everyone in the entire city. I think that the grand re-opening is something they're going to want to see.”
“Don't be so hard on him, GoGo. He's just nervous.” Honey Lemon said, putting a hand on Hiro's head and smiling widely at him. He tried to smile back, but it ended up looking more like a grimace.
“You'll be fine, Hiro.” Wasabi said, looking down at Hiro encouragingly.
“Yeah man, don't sweat it. You're going to be awesome up there.” Fred added. He patted Hiro on the back.
“Thanks guys.” Hiro croaked, trying to give them all a better smile.
The audience began to clap, and Hiro realized with a start that the speaker before him had finished.
“Thank you for that lovely speech, Professor Kantz.” The announcer's voice echoed over the loudspeakers. “At this time we would like to ask Hiro Hamada to come to the stage and present the dedication speech.”
Hiro's face paled. With shaking fingers, he straightened his suit jacket and pulled his notecards out of his pocket.
“Here it goes.” He muttered, giving his friends a pleading glance. He so badly wanted one of them to jump up on the stage and do this speech for him. But no one was volunteering.
“Don't be such a sissy, Hiro.” GoGo said, the sincerity in her eyes undermining her hard words.
Honey Lemon gave him a hug and a peck on the cheek. The rest of the team patted him on the back and offered a few hurried whispers of encouragement.
Hiro took a deep breath and after glancing back at his friends one more time, walked up the three steps that led to the raised platform.
He took another slow, deep breath to try and calm his fluttering nerves as he approached the podium. As he stood behind it, he couldn't help but notice it had been lowered to accommodate his height. He appreciated the thought, but he could feel the tips of his ears turning red in embarrassment and he thought he heard someone in the audience titter. This wasn't exactly the start he had been hoping for, but it was the one he had been expecting.
Aunt Cass sat in the front aisle in the center of the row. She gave him a thumbs up from her seat and mouthed the words, “You can do it.”
Hiro settled the notecards of his speech on the stand as he timidly looked up at the rest of the audience. Hundreds of people stared back at him expectantly. Hiro gulped.
How in the world am I supposed to make a good impression on all of these people? He thought to himself, fear paralyzing him for a moment.
But then Aunt Cass' words came back to him. She had said that no matter what happened, she would still be proud of him, and his friends would too. And most importantly, so would Tadashi. In the end, it didn't matter what all of those other people thought as long as the people close to him were proud.
Clearing his throat, Hiro adjusted the microphone and began.
“My name is Hiro. Tadashi Hamada was my older brother. And in case you didn't know, this building is dedicated to him.”
Hiro's voice rang out clearly over the sound system. Something about this made him feel a little more confident, and he continued.
“One year ago, the showcase hall for San Fransokyo Institute of Technology burned to the ground. Millions of dollars worth of tech burned with it, some of which was mine. But that wasn't the only thing the fire took.
“Everyone got out of the building safely aside from some smoke inhalation. Everyone, that is, except for one man. My brother, who wasn't even inside when the fire started, ran into the burning building to try and save this man's life. But then there was an explosion, and Tadashi...” Hiro's voice cracked.
“Tadashi didn't make it out.”
He paused. Hiro took a shaky breath, furiously trying to blink the tears out of his eyes.
Don't break down, Hiro. He told himself. Just get through this.
“What my brother did was an act of heroism and selflessness that I can't even comprehend. Tadashi willingly gave himself up for someone else. That was how much he valued life. That was how brave and selfless he was. And this building is dedicated to him.”
Hiro looked down at his notecards for what to say next. But what he had written down didn't feel right. He wrestled for with what to do, and made the split-second decision to speak from his heart.
“What I'm trying to say, is that the inventions and tech the students at this college are putting here, myself included, are going to affect people. Through our inventions, we have the opportunity to help people, to make a difference in the world. Some of you already have. Tadashi supported SFIT as much as he did because he believed in that. He believed with all his heart we could do that. And I believe it to.”
Hiro stepped out from behind the podium. “So not only is this building dedicated to Tadashi, but also to the dreams of all the students here and the changes they're going to make in the world. This building is dedicated to their bravery, and their effort, and their endless hope. This building is dedicated to the future.”
Hiro looked behind him and nodded at the workers standing on stage. They heaved on the ropes holding back the red curtain at the back of the stage to reveal the beginnings of the brand new SFIT showcase hall. Rising up on the side was a pillar of stone with a shining plaque on it. On that plaque were the words “Tadashi Hamada Building; dedicated to young men and women with the hearts of lions beating in their chests.”
The crowd began to cheer and clap wildly and they all stood to their feet. Many of them were wiping tears from their eyes and Hiro looked at them in surprise. Never in all of the many different endings he had thought up in his head had he envisioned a reaction like this.
Aunt Cass caught Hiro's gaze and she smiled at him. Tears glistened in her proud eyes, and Hiro realized that she had never expected anything less. None of his friends had expected less either. All Aunt Cass did was nod at him, but Hiro understood what she meant. He smiled a real smile back at her and looked over at the showcase hall. Hiro knew now that they weren't the only ones who were proud of him.
He could almost feel a grinning Tadashi standing next to him, giving him a punch on the shoulder and saying, “Good job, Hiro. I knew you could do it.”
Hiro smiled wistfully.

   “Thanks Tadashi.” He whispered.

Thank you all SO VERY MUCH  for reading this!!!! Literally no one else besides myself has laid eyes on it before this, so comments and critiques are more than welcome!!! Thank you all again and have a great week!
MR

P.S. I've included a super fast doodle of Hiro as my cover picture. The reason he looks older than he does in the movie is because a.) in my fanfiction he is and b.) It is too late and I'm am too tired to fix him. XP

I'm Co-Writing My Novel!!

Yes, you read that right. I am co-writing my novel!!! Pretty crazy, huh??
My co-writer is someone truly amazing, so amazing I could never put it into words. He's always there to give me help with my plot, character development, theme. And anything else I need too, in writing and in everyday life! Whenever I'm stuck I go to him for help and he always has an answer for me. If I'm discouraged with my writing (which I often am) he's always there to encourage and uplift me. In short, he is simply the greatest co-writer I could ever have the privilege of working with. But the best part is that you can co-write with him too. Right now, as a matter of fact!
In case you haven't already guessed, I'm going to tell you who he is. This co-writer of mine is God! Without him I honestly don't know if I'd even be able to write. Whenever I ask, he's always right there to help me out with what to say and how to say it. He's always ready to unravel my tangled plot and make it into something beautiful that only he could do. Because trust me, without him this novel would be a complete mess. It really kind of is, but it would be even more so if I didn't have him.
Most importantly though, he gives me the passion I need to write. I have a lot of passion and heart for my novel that God has given me. Granted, most of the time I have a difficult time getting that on paper, but it's still there. Without passion, without a burning desire for your story to touch others lives, then it's just going to be a bunch of words that people will forget. If your story's good, then people might remember it for awhile but is it going to make them want to change? For most Christians who are writing, this is your ultimate goal. And without God giving you that passion that isn't going to happen.
Keeping God involved in your story will help fix a lack of passion. How do you do that? Talk to him about it. Ask him to help you when you need it (and I know you need it a lot. I certainly do). Read your Bible. Go to church. Some of these things might not seem related but they are. Things my pastor says during his sermon have often inspired me in some aspect of my writing, from character development to new story inspiration. Reading my Bible helps me to fuel my passion for this story and often gives me ideas for my characters, as odd as that probably sounds. Please, don't go to church and read your Bible just to help you with your writing. Do those things to help you grow closer to Jesus. But while you're doing them, keep your heart and mind open to what God may give you for your writing. He'll give you something if you ask him for it!
Thanks for reading again this week! If I can get my act together, I might be posting a Big Hero 6 fanfiction next week (anybody else absolutely in love with that movie???). If I don't have it finished, who knows! I could post about anything. XP
Have a wonderful week, and keep writing!

Life in General

Hello readers and followers of this poor, tiny blog!!
Agh, I am the worst blogger in the entire universe, I know!! Though I can honestly say that I have been quite busy with writing, so that is why I haven't been blogging. But from now on, I WILL be posting once a week, every week on Monday. Boding some form of disaster doesn't occur, that is. But this is my new goal, and I am going to stick with it! *Loud applause and cheering in background due to the fact that I'm going to finally commit to this*
I am also writing this post to give a general update on my life. Number one being that I have started an online shop on Facebook for some of my crochet items! I do crochet, in case you didn't know. ((You might recall the FREE Merlin and Arthur crochet patterns I posted awhile back.)) But I do, and it's something that I really enjoy doing. So here's the link to my Facebook page/shop, if you get the urge to check it out: https://www.facebook.com/MagesticMakery
I call it "Magestic Makery". Which since my name is Maggie, was supposed to be incredibly creative and amazing, but I think a lot of people just think I spelled majestic wrong.... But anyway, here's a picture of some of the things I've made.

Likes, shares, comments and the like are all very much appreciated, but I don't want to pressure any of you! Just wanted to share. :D
And now for a writing update! I will be finishing the ninth chapter of my novel and I will commence work on chapter ten in the coming week. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE MADE IT THIS FAR!!! Chapter thirteen will mark the halfway mark of my outlined book, and I was thinking about posting an excerpt when I reach that point. What do you think of that?
As I mentioned earlier, I will be posting once a week on here from now on. And I've got a wide variety of things planned out. Some of which include a possible fanfiction, maybe some excerpts, some deep and thoughtful musings, writing stuff... Like I said, a wide variety, so keep your eyes open!
And as for my life in general.... It's been good! I'm going to start Driver's ED this Tuesday (( THIS TUESDAY!!! ACK!!! *Screams in fear of the unknown*)). So that's exciting and also very nerve-wracking. And um... Geesh, I don't know! I've been mostly crocheting, drawing, writing, reading. AKA the usual. I did re-start piano lessons last Monday, which is also exciting! Have I mentioned I play the piano?? Well, I do, so now you know. :D We'll see how that goes since I'll also have a bunch of Driver's ED stuff to do.. *Gulps*
Ta-da! That's what my life has been like! And I posted on my blog again, yayyayyay!! I do love comments, so feel free to leave some! Have a splendid week everyone, and I'll see you here come next Monday!

What's Up With Modern Music?

Has anyone else noticed the lack of depth in today's music, specifically in today's Christian music? Because I have, and it irritates me to no end. It seems like every time I turn on the radio, my ears are bombarded by this meaningless noise. Most of the songs I hear are nothing but this upbeat tune with some mindless lyrics that are repeated over and over again. And sure, it's sometimes nice to have a fun song that you can jam out to without thinking about. But every song that airs on the radio is a little too far, don't you think?
What happened to songs like "And Can It Be"? Take a minute and listen to this song and think about the lyrics. It will touch your heart and bring tears to your eyes! What about "Be Thou My Vision", or "There Is a Fountain"? You can pretty much take any hymn out of any old hymnal and find something worth your time.    Now compare these songs to today's Contemporary Christian Music. Pretty big difference, huh? Don't get me wrong, there are quite a few CCM songs that I really like! I've even posted about a few of them before. But the fact of the matter is, most of today's Christian music is horribly shallow and meaningless. And I actually have a theory for what has happened to change it from what it used to be. ((That's right, I'm not just posting some big long rant. I actually have a point to my argument, heehee. :D ))
As a writer, I am constantly trying to figure out how to "show and not tell" in my writing. For those of you who aren't writers, this means not boring the reader with this long description of what's going on, and instead showing them what's actually happening. For example, instead of saying "she desperately wanted to hold Jimmy's hand, but she was too afraid", you should say something along the lines of "her hand tentatively reached toward Jimmy's, but she jerked it back before they touched". See what I'm trying to say?
In the music of old, the writers painted this beautiful picture of what Jesus did for us and our relationship with him. Take a look at this verse from "And Can It Be":

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

That is amazing!!! Charles Wesley, the writer of this hymn, succeeded in showing and not telling in this song. He used an allegorical representation of salvation to get his point across. But not all hymns use this method. Some hymns do tell instead of show. Look at this verse from "There Is A Fountain":
  1. The dying thief rejoiced to see
    That fountain in His day;
And there have I, though vile as he,
    Washed all my sins away.

The writer just states what's going on, but he tells it in such a beautiful way! Songwriters of today have lost that. It feels like there is no heart to their music, like they're not putting any thought or effort into their writing. If you picked up a book that was written that way, you'd read a few pages and put it back. Why? Because the writing's poor. And books with poor writing are no fun to read, are they? Well, I think that songs with poor writing and no heart behind their lyrics aren't fun to listen to.
Please don't take me wrong, I'm sure that there are tons of artists who still have heart in their music. Actually, I know there is, because those are the guys I like to listen to. All I"m saying is that it seems like the majority of them have lost that. It feels like they're just putting out another song to add it to their new album that thousands people are going to buy without putting any emotion into it. And when the point of their music should be to praise God with it, then doing that isn't right.
I could be absolutely wrong about all this, but this is just the general impression I get from modern music. I really wish I didn't get this impression, but I do. I miss the deep, powerful music that we have in our hymnals, the stuff that changes lives. And I hope to see more of that in today's music. :)

((I WILL be posting next Monday!!! It'll  be some general news about what's going on with my life and stuff. Hope to see you next week!))

More Doodles!

Hello, hello, hello!
I'm back, after a few weeks' absence! My excuse is that I have been writing, as I stated in my last post. And so far, I have been sticking with my goal. Yay! Of course, I am only into it two chapters, so... yeah.
The reason I am posting, is 1.) to say hello, and 2.) to share some doodles, drawings, pictures, whatever you want to call them. :) I know it's not much, but I really have spent my evenings (which is when I usually blog) writing on my book, so this is all I have time for. Forgive me, because I have some ideas for new posts! I will get around to those soon enough, I hope....
   But now for the pictures!

Thranduil

I drew this one for a friend of mine.

   Arabian Horse

Someone on Pinterest asked me to draw this one. I used Pyro Thyme, a horse from my Arabian Horse times books that I ADORE as a reference.

   Hiro

So, I went and saw Big Hero 6 in theaters the other night, and I LOVED IT!!!! Like, a lot. So I had to draw Hiro, because... Well, just look at him! How could I not?

So, there you have it! Some of my drawings! Have any thoughts/critiques? And requests? Feel free to comment!
Thanks so much for reading and looking, and have a great week!
